Brief Bibliography:

High School and college Professor, retired. As a campground host at Twin Lakes and Loleta recreational areas on the Allegheny National Forrest from 1978-1992, I became exposed to many CCC alumni who returned to their forest home. As a result I became fully entrenched in researching CCC history for the past 35 years.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
I have established the Marie and Mike Schultz CCC Collection at the University of Pittsburgh/Bradford, PA. campus. The collection is located at the Hanley Library. The collection is a great place for research on the CCC as it houses over 1000 pictures, 32 video interviews with CCC vets, 50 books on the CCC, a large holding of CCC memorabilia, CCC camp newspapers (chiefly from PA camps) and countless articles and papers dealing with the CCC.  In addition, there are a number of academic papers regarding the CCC in Western Pennsylvania.

Author of books on the CCC:

  • IN THE SHADOW OF THE TREES – a historical novel
  • THE CCC IN THE ALLEGHENY NATIONAL FOREST.  Narrative on the CCC camps that were established in the Allegheny National Forest.
  • FROM THE FOREST TO THE BATTLEFIELD.  Biographies of 40 CCC Boys who received the Congressional Medal of Honor.
  • IN THE LAND OF MILK AND MAPLE:  THE CCC IN SOMERSET COUNTY 1933-1942

Numerous articles on the CCC have been written on the CCC many of which have been published in the CCC Legacy Journal.  My research lead to the production of a sixty-minute CCC documentary on the CCC in Pennsylvania that has played on PBS.
